BRTA court files 11 cases

A Bangladesh Road Transport Authority mobile court in Dhaka on Wednesday filed 11 cases and realised Tk 18,000 from vehicles, mainly CNG-run buses, for charging extra and not posting fare chart in the counters.
The court, led by BRTA executive magistrate (deputy secretary) Abdur Rashid, filed the cases during the drive conducted at Mohakhali, Sayedabad and Gabtoli areas and fined the vehicles Tk 33,000.
Of the amount, Tk 18,000 was realised till 8:00pm and the process to realise the remaining Tk 15,000 was on, the magistrate said, adding counters of two diesel-run inter-district bus operators were also among those fined.
All the cases were filed under the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, he said. The court fined CNG-run buses, named Anabil, Dibanishi, Phalgun and Blue Bird for realising extra fare from the passengers.
In the wake of charging extra by the CNG-run buses following CNG price hike, BRTA started the drive against the vehicle operators and it, according to BRTA officials, will continue until the malpractice is stopped.
